Farewell (A Father’s Day Poem)

I wrote this last year, but it feels just as relevant. It’s more empowering than I actually feel. But poetry (and all art, really) is like that – you can be anything you want to be.

Happy Father’s Day.

FAREWELL

Here I am
spoiled
rotting
disbelieved
split open
heart broken
I am still
this
damaged
thing
the one you tore apart
chewed up
spit out
the one you left your mark on
but the holes are sealed now
and you will not
fuck me again
oh
dear father
my old man
how your flesh must ache
yearning for just one more
touch
taste
smell
release
a hunger that will drive you mad
because I
am
not
yours
anymore
